Hello and thank you for stopping to rest at The Whispering Wild.
'Imbolc Lepus' the hare that dreams away the quiet hours amongst the silence of snowdrops. This sculpture is Entitled 'Imbolc Lepus' meaning Imbolc hare. I was inspired to make her sleeping soul mainly through my overwhelming love of nature. It is currently coming up to Imbolc here in the UK, a time where the land stirs beneath our feet ready to make its glorious show. I wanted to create something that embodied this time of rebirth. Her eyes slightly more open than some of my other sculptures and the snowdrops gently raising their heads in readiness whilst wrapping delicate but protective roots around her. She is magical yet has elements of living about her with the details of veins in her ears and the speck of light in her eyes. It's almost as if her body is gently breathing and becoming one with the earth, flowers growing around her. In my heart I like to think that our wild animals dream of the warmer times to come. The sculpture itself has taken many hours of creation. I begin by making a wire frame which I then wrap in wool, a beautiful blend of local corriedale fleece and a hint of moth silk made from the cocoons of moths, it gives it a magical shimmer. The snowdrops are made from wool and wire with tiny roots that hug the hare. I also scribe a small handwritten label with the title of the sculpture written with quill and ink. She is made of dreams and I have adored creating her sleeping soul.

Welcome to

It is time to rest those weary bones on the earth and enjoy the peace of this magical place. This is a place I have known for a very long time and have gratefully been gifted the ability to recreate the creatures that reside here in wool, thread and words.
I really hope that my sculptures bring you joy and that my blog posts about The Whispering Wild and my life within it inspire you to help open your heart to my wild and creative life. Much love and magic xx |
